Smooth motion
Good color accuracy in Movie mode
Poor brightness in Movie mode
Not much flexibility in positioning
Intro
The Optoma HD66 is a DLP home theater projector that offers a 720p video resolution and lots of lumens in a small, compact package. It would be a good pick for users who want to watch movies in several locations, but we found that to get the best color accuracy out of the device, we had to turn the brightness down significantly, and it doesn't have the power to show presentations effectively in well-lit rooms.
| Section | The Good | The Bad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tour & Design | Small, compact package | Small screw legs don't allow for much control of positioning | |
| Blacks & Whites | Very bright in the Presentation and Bright modes | Movie and other modes are not as bright | |
| Color Accuracy | Attractive, smooth color response in movie mode | Color Gamut is a little inaccurate | |
| Motion | 120Hz display frequency makes for smooth motion | Some rainbow effect and color fringing | |
| Viewing Effects | Image looks great in darkened rooms | Short zoom provides little flexibility in positioning | |
| Calibration | Calibration requires only a few tweaks | Our calibrated mode produced relatively low screen brightness | |
| Remote Control | Small, compact remote | Many buttons do not do anything with this projector | |
| Connectivity & Media | A good range of inputs | Only 1 HDMI port | |
| Power, Noise & Heat | Doesn't use a huge amount of power | Fan is a little noisy | |
