An affordable home theater experience
Pretty good colors
Trouble with detail in black and white values
Below average peak brightness
Intro
With an MSRP of $899, the ViewSonic Pro8200 could make for an affordable home theater experience. We caution against using this projector for presentations in a meeting or a classroom setting. The peak brightness is good, but diminishes quickly with distance. If you can control the ambient light in the environment and keep the projector not too far from the screen, the Pro8200 will make for good home-viewing, with commendable colors in 1080p resolution.
| Section | The Good | The Bad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tour & Design | Three adjustable feet | Big and boxy | |
| Blacks & Whites | Produces both black and white | Poor uniformity, little detail distinction in black and white values | |
| Color Accuracy | Very steady color temperature and accurate colors | The blue values go from undersaturated to oversaturated | |
| Motion | Little artifacting in motion | Some noticeable detail loss in motion | |
| Viewing Effects | The 1.5x zoom provides a good range of throw distances | The throw keeps you at a distance, yet brightness diminishes quickly with added distance | |
| Calibration | Calibration is simple | The colors need to be desaturated for a better picture | |
| Remote Control | Very small and light | Does not control much, you probably will not use it after initial setup | |
| Connectivity & Media | Quite a few ports including two HDMI connections | No SPDIF for the surround sound connection | |
| Power, Noise & Heat | Does not produce much noise | Gets very hot | |
