Great for entry-level users
Accurate colors and greyscale transition
Poor motion performance
Lack of screen uniformity
Intro
The Viewsonic PJD5123 is an entry-level DLP projector that’s bright enough to satisfy most demands. It’s got a low native resolution, and its color accuracy isn’t great, but it could be a good deal for offices, classrooms, and people who demand to see E.T. on their basement wall (pixelated or not).
| Section | The Good | The Bad | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tour & Design | Viewsonic PJD5123 is light-weight. | No lens cap, and does not come with travel bag. | |
| Blacks & Whites | Fantastic greyscale transition on a reasonably bright screen. | Poor tunnel contrast and minor defects in screen uniformity. | |
| Color Accuracy | Capable of displaying colors with reasonable accuracy. | Color temperature is extremely variable. | |
| Motion | Can display moving objects. | Does so very, very poorly. | |
| Viewing Effects | Bright enough to project a large screen in a dark room. | Pixel and keystone distortion is quite bad. | |
| Calibration | Granular calibration is possible. | Some of the settings are mysterious. | |
| Connectivity & Media | Many connection options, if not the best ones. | No HDMI port. | |
| Power, Noise & Heat | Eco mode reduces energy consumption and heat. | Turning on Eco makes the fan run more noisily. | |
