Intro

The ViewSonic PJD6531w is a $699 wXGA projector that uses DLP technology. We found that it produced a lot of light and had good color performance in our calibrated settings. It also has a decent zoom lens that provides some flexibility in location, but has no big optical issues. It comes with a nice carrying case but it is a little heavier and bulkier than many other similarly priced projectors.

Section The Good The Bad
Tour & Design Well designed, with easy to use controls. Large fan vents.
Blacks & Whites Produces lots of light in presentation modes. Image is a little dim in movie mode.
Color Accuracy Very consistent whites and smooth color response. Color Gamut is a little inaccurate.
Motion Smooth, clean motion. DLP rainbow effect is prominent.
Viewing Effects Plenty of light means that it can fill a big screen. Doesn't have the power to cut through high ambient light.
Calibration Easy to calibrate. Calibration cuts brightness significantly.
Remote Control Small, handy remote. N/A
Connectivity & Media Decent selection of ports. Only one HDMI port.
Power, Noise & Heat Fan noise is only moderate in ECO mode. Noisy fan in all other modes; uses quite a lot of power.
